Stop Making Sense (1984)
Stop Making Sense
This review will be a little different. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever done one like this. Because I won’t be reviewing a movie. I’m reviewing a concert. When I first went to Max to watch this, it’s described as the best concert film of all time. And they may just be right. It’s certainly probably the best I’ve seen. There is so much effort from each and every musician, and everyone contributes in a fantastic way. From David Byrne being David Byrne, to the awesome back up singers and musicians, they are all pieces to the brilliant puzzle that is ‘Stop Making Sense’. I loved the opening with “Psycho Killer”, and a great progression of their best songs. I legitimately think I was tapping my foot the entire time. If you’re not a huge fan of Talking Heads, all you have to do is watch this. Byrne’s big suit is iconic, “Life During Wartime” is perfect, and the entire freaking concert is awesome. My only gripe, if I had to make one, was that it does get a tiny bit hard to sit through, only because it’s the same scene for the entire time. But this film is near perfect, and I loved every second of it. The vocals, the music, the dancing, everything. It’s amazing. Even watching it 40 years later, this concert is still legendary, relevant, and inspirational. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
