Night Swim (2024)
Night Swim
Here it is. The first 2024 release I’ve seen. Most unfortunately, this wasn’t the best way to start off my 2024 list. I’ve always liked Blumhouse and their movies, but this one just doesn’t cut it for me. It takes forever to get into, with a very drawn out opening 30 minutes. It felt like it took forever for anything remotely interesting to happen. I kind of see how the movie tries to set you up for everything to come, but in this specific case, it doesn’t work. By the time I actually got to the good stuff, I didn’t care that much. I was also very disappointed in the scares. There wasn’t anything remotely scary, with very minimal jumpscares and not a lot of suspense. Of course, this movie is very mild compared to some of the stuff I’ve seen, but still. It relied more on mystery rather than any kind of horror. The story builds up the mysterious feel, but falls short in the writing department. It’s really nothing we haven’t seen before. It was pretty simplistic. I didn’t really like the setting or any of the characters either, so basically everything kind of sucked. I did like some of the makeup and special effects, but even then, you barely got to see any kind of antagonist. In fact, the biggest evil of the movie was literally just water. Overall, this movie wasn’t very well made, and though it had a couple scenes that were alright, it didn’t come close to being entertaining.
