The Big Lebowski (1998)
The Big Lebowski
This movie was definitely not what I expected, in both a bad and good way. I didn’t expect I was going to like it, because I’m not a huge fan of vulgar comedies. However, I enjoyed a good chunk of it. There were some bits of it that didn’t make much sense, but overall, the movie flowed decently well. I enjoyed the story, as it provided entertainment, while still having the comedy element all throughout the movie. I liked the feel that the whole thing had. It was almost mysterious and had a Scorsese-type vibe. The movie also started out in a great way that pulls you in, and I mostly stayed hooked. All the characters were pretty fun, and I don’t really think there were any that I didn’t care for. They all had their own unique but dumb personalities, which only made the movie funnier. The cast was also great, with a fantastic lineup consisting of Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Sam Elliot, and David Thewlis. I have to say that this might be my favorite Goodman role, as he constantly had me laughing with his attitude and nonsense. I really liked Buscemi as well, but I was very disappointed by his amount of screen time. I think he could’ve had much more, and they kind of let a funny character go to waste. The music in this one was decent, and though I didn’t really notice it a whole lot, when it was prominent, it was good. Overall, this was a pretty funny movie, and though I don’t think I’d watch it again, I’m definitely glad I did. I’d recommend it to those who love comedies mixed with an interesting crime element.
