The Accountant (2016)
The Accountant
The only reason I finally got around to watching this is because the sequel comes out in a couple weeks. I’ve honestly been meaning to watch it for years now, but I only just now found the motivation. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen, but it certainly wasn’t bad. It took me several minutes to get into it, and the film definitely takes its time laying the groundwork. I was a bit mixed on the runtime. There were so many moments where it felt a bit too long, but at the same time, most of the scenes were pretty crucial and helped establish the story and characters. I particularly enjoyed the autism aspect of Ben Affleck’s character. I grew up with several autistic friends and going to Special Olympics, so those that have special needs are important to me. That being said, I think it was an interesting decision to have Christian Wolff be autistic, and ultimately, it paid off. The quirkiness gives a nice quality. Think of this film as being ‘Good Will Hunting’ meets ‘Batman’. The action was fun, with exciting sequences and great choreography. I also like the mental moments when there wasn’t Ben Affleck being a physical beast. He was a mental beast, too. His performance was so solid. The perfect level of awkwardness in contrast with his manliness. The rest of the cast was good as well. Overall, this is a little drawn out, but it’s an intriguing story that does a good job of mixing investigation with action, and I’m excited to see where the sequel goes. I’d recommend this to most crime/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
