Sing Sing (2024)
Sing Sing
This watch has been a long time coming. I’ve been trying very hard to see it for the last few months. Well, not that hard, because it’s either available or it’s not. But it finally came to a theater near me, so I jumped on it, and believe me, I’m glad I did. It’s easily one of the best films of 2024, and by a long shot. The fact that it isn’t nominated for Best Picture is mind boggling. The biggest reason why it’s so great is because not only is it based on a true story, but most of the cast is actually the formerly incarcerated inmates who were part of the theater program shown in the film. Throughout the film, it shows that no matter who you are, there is a chance for forgiveness, reform, and a way to succeed. It’s very inspirational in its own weird little way. All walks of life unite to make one great journey to a better life. The screenplay for this film was so meticulously written and performed, and you can see the effort and detail put into it. Every word, every movement, every relationship is so well displayed. The performances from every supporting role were fantastic, authentic, and emotional. Colman Domingo and Clarence Maclin specifically were so on point and gripping. The only reason why I didn’t give this film a perfect 100% was because at first, I couldn’t completely relate to any of the characters, so it took me a few minutes to get into it. But as you watch, you grow with the characters, and pretty soon, you feel like you’re part of their troupe. It leaves you with a feeling that I can’t totally explain, you just feel……complete. I don’t know. You just need to see this for yourself and feel what they feel. That’s the best way to put it. Everyone needs to see this at least once in their life. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
