Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection (1989-2008)
Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection
My first review of 2025 is going to be the four masterfully made Wallace & Gromit short films. I think normally I would do separate reviews, but it’s much easier to do them all at once, so here we go. Starting with ‘A Grand Day Out’, this one is my favorite of the four. It’s the first one made, and the one I’ve seen the most as a kid. I watched it about a million times, so it has the most nostalgia for me. The cheese moon plot is awesome, and the stop motion is perfect, while still looking very rugged and done independently (which it was). It’s a great introduction to the classic duo of Wallace & Gromit. The second one, ‘The Wrong Trousers’, arguably the most iconic, has great action with one of the best villains of all time, Feathers McGraw. The most famous penguin ever. The third one is ‘A Close Shave’, which scared the heck out of me as a kid. It’s not actually scary, but it has some suspenseful moments, ominous music, and an awesome antagonist in Preston the cyberdog. Plus, we get the introduction to Shaun the Sheep. The last one is ‘A Matter of Loaf and Death’, which is the weakest of the four. I still think it’s awesome, it just doesn’t hit as hard as the first three. But they are all great, wonderfully made, and are full of fun characters and filmmaking magic. Hats off to everyone involved, especially the legendary Nick Park. I’d recommend these to all fans of stop motion. These short films are officially Berry Approved, so go watch them now!
