The Last Showgirl (2024)
The Last Showgirl
Pamela Anderson absolutely brings everything she has in this film. The only big reason I wanted to see it was because of the award buzz around it, and I’m glad I did. Pamela easily gives a top 10 female performance of the year, if not top 5. I’d like to see her get an Oscar nomination for this. The film is based on her character trying to figure out what she might do after her dance show closes down. It has a good glimpse into her life and how people in her line of work might handle things. And not even just her life, but life in general. The way this film was shot also does a great way of showing emotion and social reactions to certain situations. The cinematography was on point. Many scenes were vivid and detailed, while some seemed a little desaturated, but it always matched the mood. The entire cast is awesome, with great supporting performances from Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista. I’ll say this strongly and loudly: Dave Bautista is the best athlete-turned-actor that is currently working. Billie Lourd and Jason Schwartzman also show up and deliver. Lastly, the score was magnificently gorgeous, with a great original song by Miley Cyrus at the very end. Overall, this film was well written and well performed, and deserves the award buzz. It’s not anything insanely superb, but it’s very solid and worth the watch. I’d recommend it to most drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
