Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Oof. My goodness. Normally, I’m not always a super huge fan of prequels (or sequels) that may not seem necessary. But let me say this: this movie opens up so many more questions, but also provides so many answers. Despite being a prequel, you definitely have to watch the show beforehand, because you wouldn’t understand half of this movie. The context it provides to so many events is pleasing but also disturbing. I feel so much more complete now that I’ve seen this. Many episodes of the show make a lot more sense, and I feel like I can appreciate it even more. Story-wise, I won’t be saying anything, solely because if you haven’t seen the show, it wouldn’t make sense, and I don’t want to give anything away. I just love how this movie caught me off guard, despite being about what I expected. The way it’s put together is absolutely masterful. With the returning characters, you jump right in running, and don’t have to worry about getting caught up. There are some new people, but a good chunk is the TV show cast. Sheryl Lee is the obvious standout, and she brought one of the best female performances I’ve seen in awhile. The amount of effort she put into this movie is astounding, and certainly paid off. I really want to say more right now, but I think I’m gonna end it here for two reasons: 1) I’m in complete awe, and my mind is still processing the masterpiece I just watched, and 2) after watching the show, you should go into this blind. Even though you’ll know the characters and technically what happened, it’s still so eye opening and just….beautiful. Haunting, sad, and disturbing, but beautiful. I would recommend this to all crime/thriller fans, only after you’ve seen the show. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
