The Nice Guys (2016)
The Nice Guys
So I had no idea what to expect going into this movie, and I have to see, I was extremely pleased. I absolutely loved it, as it provides a really entertaining and hilarious story. Not only is it a great detective story, but the comedic element really makes it fun. It was a really great blend that worked in a great way. Throughout the entire movie, I was constantly sucked in, with plenty of time for laughter, action, and especially mysterious detective work. I love the 1970’s aesthetic, which really helps boost the movie’s classic noir-ish feel. Not only does the plot provide a great mood, but the setting and outfit design is spot on. In several ways, this movie reminds me of Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. The clothes were just perfect, as well as the vehicles, billboards, basically everything. I also loved the scene where Get Smart was playing on the TV, which is my second favorite show of all time. I also really liked the different suits that Holland wears, as well as the rest of his physical appearance. And speaking of Holland, all the characters in this one were outstanding. Not only were the characters well written, but the acting was awesome. This might potentially be my favorite role of Daddy Gosling’s, and he was easily the best character of the whole film. He was able to bring some fantastic comedic relief, and even in the most serious scenes, he still made me laugh. I also really enjoyed Russell Crowe, who did a good job being the straight man. The soundtrack was really great as well. The original score had an awesome nostalgic 70’s feel, which obviously helped increase the feel of the movie. I also really loved the inclusion of some awesome songs of this specific time period: “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”, “September”, “Jive Talkin’”, and “A Horse With No Name”. I was so excited to hear those songs in this movie, as they are all some of my favorites. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie to all action/crime/comedy fans, as the movie provides all three of those. It’s hilarious, yet still serious, and it provides an intriguing story and characters. This movie is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
