The Last of Us (Season 1) (2023)
The Last of Us (Season 1)
So. The Last of Us. Season one. This review definitely won’t be as in depth as many others will be, as I've never played the game or seen any clips of it. Therefore, I’m reviewing this as a TV show, not as a comparison. Obviously, I don’t have any insight on what happens in the game or how the character/story may be similar/different. I very much enjoyed the story, as apocalyptic settings are always entertaining. The main goal of Joel and Ellie is fun to watch, especially further into the season. However, one thing I was slightly disappointed in was how deep it went into the characters and their backstories. Some bits of it I really enjoyed, but sometimes it felt like it dragged on forever. I guess I was expecting more clickers and action, and that’s not always what you get. And like I said, I haven’t played the game, so I have no idea if that’s how it’s supposed to be or not. But, the majority of it was still very enjoyable. As stated, you get a great look into each character, so you learn about them as you journey along with them. I thought Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey did a fantastic job, although I have no clue if they match the characters from the game. I also really loved the clickers. Their designs were so awesome, and the uniqueness of their infections are cool. The use of fungus instead of just regular zombie stuff really makes them stand out. I wish we could’ve seen some more of them, because I definitely didn’t get as much action/fights as I wanted. The season finale was great, and it really makes me excited for season two. Who knows, maybe I’ll play the game by then, we’ll just have to see. Overall, this show was pretty great, though there were definitely some times where I got bored. It also makes me want to explore shows such as The Walking Dead. I would definitely recommend this to all drama/plague/zombie/apocalypse fans, especially if you’ve played the game. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
