Nice 'n' Easy (1960)

Nice ‘n’ Easy

  • One of the best albums Sinatra ever did, this is definitely one of his finest pieces of work. This album is perfectly summed up by the title and opening track: Nice ‘n’ Easy. It flows together so well, and it contains the same blues-y mood throughout the whole thing. That’s what makes it so great. It keeps the same feel from start to finish, and doesn’t bounce around from different tones. The opening track “Nice ‘n’ Easy” kicks off the album with a happy track, and then transitions to the blues feel throughout the rest of the album. The second track “That Old Feeling” is so beautifully sung by Frank, and it puts me in such a melancholy mood. “I’ve Got a Crush on You”, which is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, helps keep the lovesick mood going, and it’s definitely one of the best songs Frank has sung. Probably my favorite song of the whole album is “Fools Rush In”. Sammy Davis Jr did a great, pick-me-up version of it, but Frank keeps the tempo down and uses his voice to resonate the feeling of heartbreak, as well as hope. The rest of the album continues with that feel, which is why it’s one of his finest. No singer in history is able to put the emotion of love into his songs as well as Frank can. Some of the other songs that are definitely worth a listen are “Try a Little Tenderness”, “Mam’selle”, and “How Deep is the Ocean?” Overall, I would highly recommend giving this album a listen, and no matter what you’re doing or where you are, it’s one that stops you from what you’re doing and makes you think about every note being sung. This album is officially Berry Approved, so listen to it now!
