Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
This will forever be one of my favorite Harry Potter movies. It’s very close to being unbeatable. The only one I like more is Order of the Phoenix, which is my all time favorite Harry Potter movie. This one is just so good, and just about perfect in every way. It does a fantastic job of being accurate to the book, although some key details are definitely left out. But it’s adapted very well. The story is super good, and a great change from the first three movies. Those ones are basically centered on evil villains, whereas this saves the villains towards the end. If you’ve seen this, then you know that there is an evil presence all through the tournament, but it’s not always the central focus. You get some breaks of fun wizarding tasks, almost like the Harry Potter olympics. The movie really dips into the fantasy part of Harry Potter, in a better way than most of the movies. When I say fantasy part, I’m referencing other magic communities, monsters, and such. That’s where the nice change of tone comes from. It’s still serious, but very fun and entertaining. It’s also a very mysterious movie, despite the fun competition. Not everything is as it seems. The cast is very good, and also suspicious. Well, I should say some characters are suspicious. Obviously the main three are perfect as always, and the addition of Krum, Diggory, Mad-Eye Moody, and many more really puts this movie on one of the highest pedestals. Brendan Gleeson does a ridiculously good job, and he’s the standout for me. Plus, Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort? PERFECT. Also, I want to give a very special shoutout to David Tennant. He’s the most underrated actor in this entire franchise. And that’s not my Doctor Who bias talking. The special effects are very underrated as well. For 2005, they’re extremely solid. There are a couple little scenes where it’s very obvious that it’s CG, but still good. Overall, this movie is very close to being my favorite Harry Potter film, and I would highly recommend it. Plus, Robert Pattinson. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
