Rambo III (1988)
Rambo III
This is definitely the weakest movie of the Rambo series, but it’s still pretty good. In terms of story, setting, and characters, this basically feels like any other action flick. However, it still has its elements that stand out. Out of all the Rambo movies, this one probably has the most action sequences, as well as the highest body count of the series. The props department went wild with explosions, which, as a guy, I thoroughly enjoyed. Much of the movie is just straight fighting, which is why it might be boring to some, because many action movies feel that way. But they are still insanely awesome, as well as being really well shot. It had the typical Russian antagonists, which felt kind of bland because I feel like we see them all the time in action flicks. The story was also the typical “invade the enemy camp to save a prisoner”. What I did really like was being able to see Colonel Trautman actually get involved with the fighting. In the first two movies, he was Rambo’s voice of reason, whereas in this one, we actually see him grab a gun and fight like the beast he is. One thing that also made this movie good was the underground cave scene. Like I said, a lot of this movie is just action, but it uses its action scenes in a unique way. Rambo leads the Russian soldiers down into an underground cave, where he really breaks into his character and sets his infamous traps. The music is really good as well, and it keeps the traditional main theme, which is absolutely beautiful. I loved the way the movie opens, and it gives you the definitive image of Rambo. It also shows you how he humbles himself, and helps those around him. Overall, this movie is really great to watch if you love constant shooting, suspense, and explosions. I would recommend it to those that like such things. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
