Logan Lucky (2017)
Logan Lucky
It ain’t no “Ocean’s 11” (1960), but it’s definitely one of the best heist movies I’ve seen. Which isn’t saying that much, because I haven’t seen that many heist movies. But, it was still really good. I love the modern day time and setting. It’s a nice change from other movies I’ve seen. Using Charlotte Motor Speedway is absolute genius. It provides a sense of realism, and the movie isn’t too outlandish. Of course, there’s moments in this that definitely would never happen in real life, but the movie still provides enough to feel authentic (mostly). There is a great cast of characters, all who are well portrayed, funny, and very lovable. Even the dumb, thickheaded ways are awesome. And the cast is absolutely stacked. The frontrunners are Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, and Channing Tatum, and beyond them, you get Scream’s Jack Quaid, Sebastian Stan, Seth McFarlane and more. Everyone is a nice little puzzle to an awesome puzzle. I do have a couple complaints, though. I think the runtime is too long, and several minutes could’ve been shaved off. The buildup to the heist was a little drawn out. Also, there are a couple small plot elements that didn’t pan out (at least to me), as well as those moments not entirely contributing in a helpful way. They were there for a reason, but I don’t think they always worked out. But that’s just nitpicking. Overall, this movie is very solid, very comedic, and at times, very suspenseful. It’s fun and exciting, although slightly confusing at some points. I’d probably recommend it to most action/comedy/crime fans.
