A Hard Day's Night (1964)
A Hard Day’s Night
Who knew that the Beatles would also be movie stars? It’s not surprising, seeing how popular they were. Unfortunately, I don't think any of them are super great actors. It's kind of a good thing they were playing themselves, almost in a mockumentary style. I liked how it dramatizes their coming to America, and throws some little crazy adventures in their path after they arrive. It’s a cool mix of reality and just plain entertainment. There were definitely some funny moments, although sometimes it felt forced and almost crammed. Yeah, there were a couple scenes that were a little hard to sit through, but eventually you warm up to it and enjoy it. The soundtrack was great, and definitely one of the biggest reasons this movie stands out. All the songs are fun to sing along to, even if they get overplayed in the movie. The biggest thing that caught my eye was the way this was shot. I’m not sure why, but I just loved the style of everything. I mean, it’s simple, but they capture a lot of detail, even in the quick shots of the scenery or the guys. The monochrome palette wasn’t too drab, either. It was beautiful. Overall, this movie is fun but sometimes a little tough to keep up with. I’ll definitely have to rewatch again, because I think it’s one I’d enjoy more the second time around. I’d probably recommend it to most comedy/musical fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
