All About Eve (1950)
All About Eve
Let me start off by saying that this movie deserved all 14 of its Oscar nominations. Before watching it, I was thinking to myself, “Is it really that good?” Yes, it is that good. I was thoroughly impressed with just about everything presented before me. From the first few seconds of the first scene I was immediately hooked. The way it introduces all the characters at once, rather than giving you a chance to meet them yourself, was a little unorthodox but it works beautifully. From that point forward, the testy relationships between the characters is something I was just in awe of. It was so well written, and though it’s a lot of dialogue, it was wildly entertaining. It’s actually really tricky to explain what I want to say, because it wouldn’t make much sense unless you’ve seen it. I think what I’m going for is how I loved the rise and fall of some of the characters. All the events and drama surrounding them gives such a brilliant story that seems nice and easy from the outside, but once you look into it, there’s so much to notice. The screenplay was fantastically written, and one of my favorites I’ve ever seen. The entire direction of it was exactly what I wanted from this kind of movie. I still can’t get over it. Finally, the score was really good, even though it wasn’t always present when it could’ve been. There’s a lot more I could say about this movie, but for now, I’m going to let it sit in my mind. I seriously can’t wait to watch it again, and I’d recommend it to all drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
