Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)
Kill Bill: Vol. 1
I just can’t get over how talented of a filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is. I’ve nearly completed his filmography, and I remain impressed. This was easily one of his most exciting and brutal movies. There are some like ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and ‘The Hateful Eight’ that are very dialogue driven, but this is one that looks at more action and storytelling. Even though it’s a non-linear way of telling The Bride’s story, it still feels very put in place, going from one event to the next, like going from A to B. Tarantino is such a great writer. This movie is a classic tale of revenge, and though the movie does a fantastic job of showing both the past and present, and laying out each action that gives The Bride motivation for vengeance. Revenge stories are always the best. The use of obviously fake blood was so good, and probably my favorite thing about the movie. It’s bright red and clearly being shot out of a hose in many instances, and it gives the movie an almost comic book feel. Now that I think of it, the entire movie feels like a comic book, not just the animated scene. The costumes, colors, action, characters, all of the above. It feels ripped straight from a comic. I applaud you, Quentin! Overall, this movie was amazing (though it had a couple slow moments), and it makes me extremely excited to watch Vol. 2. I’d definitely recommend it to all action/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
