Don't Breathe (2016)
Don’t Breathe
I didn’t really have high expectations for this movie, but I was definitely disappointed. Although it was pretty well made, and had a really good concept, I just thought it was boring. I had a really hard time sitting through this, and I kept getting bored. The whole story of a blind veteran protecting his house but still overstepping the line was really intriguing and unique. However, even though it was only an hour and a half, it felt way too long, and the same events were basically happening over and over. It actually felt like the movie was on a loop, in a way. The characters were just running around trying to survive, and it was basically that for a good chunk of the movie. There wasn’t a whole lot of strategy of the blind man trying to get them, and it was literally just an old dude chasing some teens around the house. That’s where I got bored. Although, Stephen Lang did an extremely good job with his role as the blind man. That last person you’d think would be terrifying is a blind war vet, but holy cow does he freak you out. He has definitely, to me, become one of the scarier antagonists that I’ve seen in any recent horror movie. The other thing I really liked about this movie was how similar it felt to the Granny mobile games. The story of both the game and movie were extremely similar, and both the way to escape and the antagonist were very similar. Essentially, if someone was to adapt Granny into a movie, this would have basically been the product. Overall, I was definitely let down, and though it was shot really well and had some intense moments, it just doesn’t live up to the hype that it has. I would still recommend it, but I know I won’t watch it again.
