Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
This was even better the second time. I watched it a year or two ago, and I really liked it then, but now with my newer movie sense, I love it even more. It’s easily one of my favorite movies from the 50’s, as well as one of Marilyn’s best movies. Both her and Jane Russell are both so amazingly gorgeous in this. I know I’m not supposed to objectify women, but my gosh they are the epitome of female beauty. Moving on from them, the story is hilarious but also has some nice touching moments. It’s a good combo of funny and feelings. I love how it’s set on a boat for a majority of the movie, which makes you feel stuck and trapped with the characters, but in a good way. I love how diverse all the characters are with their personalities. You go from a money hungry girl, to a private detective, to an entire Olympic team. And, none of them are too overbearing. That goes for the music, too. Usually, there’s one or two songs in a musical that I just don’t like, but this one was a perfect soundtrack. From beginning to end, the vocals are great, with beautiful instrumentals. Overall, this movie is fabulously made, with great costume design, catchy music, funny situations, and an all around good time. I really really like it, and I’d recommend it to all musical/comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
