Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire
It’s crazy to think how Zack Snyder has been brainstorming and crafting this movie basically for the last 10 years, and he’s finally gotten the chance to bring it to the public. As one of Zack’s biggest fans, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this movie. So to finally watch it, I’m in heaven right now. Also, the fact that there’s a part two coming, and both parts are getting R rated director’s cut (plus a potential video game), what more could I possibly want? I will say this, however: even though I loved this movie, I can definitely see why some critics aren’t a fan of it. In my eyes, I think it’s pretty good, though there were several things that stood out to me (both good and bad). Although I liked the story, it didn’t always feel like anything new. Because I’ve been so used to watching Star Wars all the time, the whole “rebels vs evil empire” plot gets old a little too quickly. It just feels too similar to other things I’ve seen, which isn’t necessarily Zack’s fault. Also, the plot didn’t always make that much sense to me. I mean, it’s not hard to follow along with, but there seemed to be random scenes that felt a bit unnecessary to the story. Here’s an analogy: the foundation was there, but the brick laying felt a bit crooked sometimes. But forget that, I still liked it. I liked most of the characters, especially Kora. My gosh, she’s such an empowering figure. A symbol of hope and justice, and I think I’m in love. Also, Ray Fisher as Darrian Bloodaxe is literally the most beautiful thing ever, and he was extremely underutilized. Lastly, the special effects were incredible for Zack’s movies (as always), with some fantastic character designs. The battle scenes were absolutely awesome and exciting, and if you like the classic Snyder Slo-Mo, then this movie is for you. I know that I am here for it. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, although at times, it’s easy to see the negative over the positive (but not often). I absolutely cannot wait for Part Two, as well as the director’s cuts. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
