Frankenstein (1931)
Frankenstein
This is perhaps one of the most iconic black and white horrors ever made. Everybody knows the story of Frankenstein, or at least the characters, and Boris Karloff certainly helped with that. I read the book a few years ago, which was good, so watching the movie was cool to see it come to life. Everyone involved in the movie does a good job adapting it and making a fun movie. Of course, when it comes to Frankenstein media, I’ll always prefer ‘Young Frankenstein’. But this one was still good. I do think it’s a tiny bit overrated, as there were times where I got a tiny bit bored. Not many times, but I was a little restless through certain scenes. I think it’s because I already knew the story and basically saw it before in ‘Young Frankenstein’, so I wasn’t as invested as I would’ve been. But it was still wonderfully made. The acting felt a little forced sometimes, but that’s the same in a lot of 30s-40s horrors. Boris is, of course, the star of this movie. His makeup is on point, and he gives the most iconic portrayal and look of Frankenstein’s monster. I still like Peter Boyle better (I’m very biased), but Boris comes in clutch as one of the best monsters ever. The score was also very well composed and gives the movie a creepy feel. Overall, this classic is very watchable, although I wasn’t as big a fan as I thought I would be. I’d definitely recommend it if you like old horror movies. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
