Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
Paranormal Activity 4
The fourth movie in the series, this one definitely wasn’t as good as the first three. I liked the story, and it was entertaining for the most part. However, much like the third movie, there were several holes in the story, and many things were left unexplained. But, I loved how Katie’s story continued, and this movie picks up from where the second one ended. The progression of the story continues to be great in this series, and I’m really enjoying it. However, the ending of the movie made zero sense, and it was an interesting and confusing choice. It leaves you searching for answers about what it meant, as it left off on a weird note. One thing I liked about this movie was how the use of webcam was very prominent. In the first three movies, handheld/security cameras were used to capture footage, whereas in this one, the web chats are often used to capture the video. I like that because it starts to take on a more modern feel, which isn’t what the first three movies have. I’d say this is definitely the least scariest of the ones I’ve seen. There are definitely a few moments that got me good, and the movie had a really creepy vibe because of Robbie. But, for the majority of the movie, I wasn’t really scared. I didn’t really care for any of the characters, although I thought the kids did a great job acting-wise. Both Brady Allen and Aiden Lovekamp gave off a creepy and eerie vibe. Towards the latter half of the movie, Lovekamp actually started to scare me, mostly from his lack of emotion. You might think a lack of emotion isn’t what you want, but for these movies, that’s precisely what you should go for. The effects in this movie were pretty good throughout, and they were pretty spooky. I like how in this movie, there is a moment or two where you almost physically see the evil presence, without directly seeing it. That was one detail that gives a movie a creepy feel. And once again, I loved the lack of music, which helps the found footage feel. Overall, I’d recommend this movie to horror fans, although I wouldn’t watch it just to watch it.
