The Quiet Man (1952)
The Quiet Man
This is not the normal John Wayne movie you’re probably used to. Instead of the classic gunslinger Western, it’s a really nice and funny romance. John Ford did a fabulous job with it, and it was enjoyable all around. I will say that it definitely felt a little slow to me, so there were a couple scenes that were a bit tedious. But, it was still great. The story takes many good turns, as well as looking at Irish tradition. I especially love how it’s all set in Ireland, so the setting is really beautiful, and matches with the story. I also really love how you get to see the inside of the characters, especially Sean. It adds much more impact to the whole movie, especially towards the end. The rest of the characters were pretty good as well. Maureen O’Hara, to me, is the obvious standout, despite John Wayne getting top billing. With every shot she was in, she was always the focal point. Not only is her acting great, but her physical beauty keeps each scene alive. The cinematography was also amazing. As I mentioned, the setting is in Ireland. So, the presence of the beautiful Ireland landscape makes it such a comfortable movie. And the score? Holy crap. It was so gorgeous, and I fell in love with it after the first five minutes. You get to hear an Irish sound, so it authenticates the movie. Overall, this movie was great, and I’d recommend it to most drama/romance fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
