Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)
Mystery of the Wax Museum
This movie was definitely enjoyable, and really well made for its time. Despite being made in 1933, it had great effects, and the makeup for the wax mannequins was really good. The story was really fun to watch, and though it’s not a scary movie, the thriller element is definitely there. The plot is centered around a man who’s murder victims become his was figures, and it’s a really creepy idea to think about. Lionel Atwill does a great job of putting on the act of an innocent man, but also showing how he’s a crazy guy. His makeup at the end of the movie was really good, and I wasn’t ready at all for the twist that the writers gave him. It was so cool to see his character unfold, and I loved his role. Glenda Farrell also did a really great job, and she perfectly pulled off the role of the classic scoop reporter. She was able to put some laughs into the movie and her role. She had a smart alec attitude, which was hilarious, and she was able to crack jokes even in the serious scenes. The music was also good, and it definitely gave this movie the awesome mystery feel that it has. The one thing I truly loved was how each mannequin was actually played by a real person, and even though they were dressed up and made to look fake, it was pretty convincing. I would recommend this movie to classic movie fans, and though most people don’t enjoy those movies nowadays, it’s still fun to watch. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
