Scream VI (2023)
Scream VI
Scream VI is brilliant. It definitely has a different feel from the previous five movies, which is exactly what they were going for. The big difference between this one and the first five is the setting. Putting Ghostface in New York City is one of the best decisions made in the franchise, as well as making it so much more terrifying. I think it freaked me out because there’s definitely been a creep dressed up who kills people in a city, so it feels very realistic. The continued storyline is very nice, especially because it ties together the entire franchise, not just Scream (2022). As a die-hard Scream fan, it was so cool to see glimpses of the past while still getting a fresh story. I also loved how the “legendary” characters still have a presence, but it’s not focused on them. Being introduced to new characters while still getting a brush of the older ones was perfect. I guess to sum it all of that up: the movement from the old to the new is very smooth and relieving, and the movie doesn’t feel like it’s repeating old stories. The Core Four stand strong and are so fun to watch as well. I think Sam is the standout, as her character develops so well. The return of KIRBY FREAKING REED was absolutely awesome, and I was so excited to see her come back. And of course, the number one character, for me, is Gale. I’ve been on the Gale Weathers simp train (minus Scream 3) since day one. I was so glad she got to show up and contribute to the story, even though she didn’t have as much screen time as I would’ve liked. The music was pretty good, and though it felt similar to the previous Scream movies, it was still very intense and thrilling. I also loved the makeup and effects, which helped make this (arguably) the bloodiest Scream to date. Overall, this movie was awesome, and it provides so many great twists and turns. It definitely has a few kinks, but not enough to hurt the movie. I’d definitely recommend it to all horror/slasher fans, especially if you’re caught up with the Scream franchise. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
