The Perfect Storm (2000)
The Perfect Storm
I definitely liked this movie, and though I didn’t necessarily want to watch it at first, I’m glad I did. It had a great and notable cast all around, and I especially enjoyed both Clooney and Wahlberg. They did a really good job, and every second they were on screen, I was sucked in. I really liked the first half of the movie a lot, because you get to watch all the men go fishing. It was cool to see how the deep sea fishing boats run and operate. You also got to see the process of cleaning and storing the fish, which was really cool to see. The first chunk of the movie does take a bit to actually get to the action, but I enjoyed being able to see the calm before the storm (both figuratively and literally). It also gave you time to learn about all the characters, including their families and personal lives. By the time everyone gets on the boat, you know each character pretty well, which is really refreshing in movies nowadays. Once it got to the actual storm scenes, they were pretty intense and definitely nerve-wracking. However, they felt really drawn out for a long time. The story also bounced back and forth between the Andrea Gail boat, and another random one that didn’t really have any importance to the story at all. It made it a bit confusing, and threw in needless information and screen time that could’ve been used for something else. But, it does keep you mostly entertained, and the movie ends with a great scene, and Wahlberg’s last scene was absolutely awesome. The movie also uses the memorial service scene to give a touching tribute to the men who died. The soundtrack was also really good, and the majority of the songs were really beautiful and fun to listen to. Overall, this was a pretty good movie, and I’d definitely recommend it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
