Jigsaw (2017)
Jigsaw
While this movie is still related to John Kramer and his traps, it brings in an entirely fresh cast, except for Kramer himself. That’s nice because you don’t have to rely on having seen the other Saw movies, except for the fact that you need to know who Kramer is. It provides a unique and fresh take on the Saw storyline, and it was very enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from this movie, but most of my expectations were greatly surpassed. This is definitely the bloodiest and most graphic Saw movie out there, and it was pretty disturbing. The story was pretty great, and it totally flips the script on you at a certain point in the movie. It pulls out a great twist that I wasn’t expecting at all, and it definitely surprised me. Unfortunately, the way it was pulled off didn’t make sense in the end, and without spoiling, the way the stories were told was confusing to grasp for me. I see exactly where the writers wanted to go with it, but it wasn’t executed in the best way. Parts of the story also mimic all the previous movies in certain ways, so it’s not like it was anything too special. However, it does a good job of showing police corruption, as well as owning up to your mistakes. There were also several small plot holes throughout the movie, so several small things didn’t make sense at all. However, the rest of the movie was great. The cast was really good, and it was awesome to see Kramer back at it again. I’d say for me that this was probably the most gripping of Saw movies, and it pulls you in really well and keeps you invested. It was intense, suspenseful, and mysterious. Overall, it was pretty good, and I’d probably recommend it to gore fans.
