All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)
I figured this would be good going into it, but I had no idea. I can see why this movie is so highly acclaimed, and why it won four Oscars. Cause man it is DEEP. It’s probably one of the best movies that truly shows the horrors of war, as well as what war does to a person. It’s about as real as it gets. It just hits you right in the heart, and you really feel for each and every character. And, several of the characters were kind of my age, so it makes it feel even more personal. It did take me several minutes to get into it, cause it definitely had a slow start. However, once I got sucked in, every second was marveling. It’s a very simple movie, yet it’s so jam packed with details. My only big complaint about it is how the story felt a bit scattered. Even though you know what’s going on, it kind of threw some stuff around, which didn’t make much sense. But by the end, it all evens out. And speaking of the end, it was the exact opposite of what I expected, which totally caught me off guard (a really good thing). The cinematography was sensational, and some of the best I’ve seen in several years. The music and sound was also ridiculously phenomenal. It was so powerful yet so subtle, and I can’t get over it. The action and fighting was also well shot. And Felix Kammerer, who is the obvious standout, had such a great performance, even though he didn’t always have much dialogue. He is able to speak so much through his eyes, much like Pattinson or Gosling. Overall, this movie is fantastic, and I would highly recommend it to all war/action/drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
