Get Out (2017)
Get Out
Woah. This is one of the best directorial debuts I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve always loved Jordan Peele, mostly for his comedy with Keegan-Michael Key. I’ve watched a crap ton of Key & Peele, so that’s all I’ve never known Jordan for. Therefore, seeing his work that isn’t a comedy is super awesome. I saw ‘Nope’ back in 2022, so that was technically my first movie of his I’ve seen, but in this review, I’m only focusing on this movie in terms of what I’ve seen of his (I saw ‘Nope’ when I didn’t have the movie sense I have now). Hopefully that makes sense. Anyways, the story is extremely haunting and made me feel very uneasy the entire time. To me, it has the same vibes as all of Ari Aster’s stuff, so if you like him, then I think you’d like this. It just totally catches you off guard in a way you don’t expect. Actually, you kind of expect it, but at the same time, it’s still very surprising. You have to see this to understand. There’s very little I can say without spoiling, so I won’t say too much more. The cast did pheNOMenal, especially Daniel Kaluuya. That man is probably the most underrated actor on this planet. He is literally perfect for this role, and nobody else could’ve pulled it off the way he did. I mean, everyone else was really good, but Daniel is in the spotlight in every frame he’s in. The score was also extremely good, and perfectly captures (and helps build) the feel of the entire movie. I won’t say anything more, just know that Jordan Peele is a genius. I’d HIGHLY recommend this to all horror/suspense fans, and it’s definitely one of my favorite horrors of all time. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
