Dark Phoenix (2019)
Dark Phoenix
Here is the most pointless and meaningless X-Men movie that I’ve seen so far. Don’t get me wrong, I actually liked it a solid amount, and found it pretty fun. But I definitely agree with many of the critics that it’s probably the worst movie of the franchise. For me, the biggest and most obvious weakness was the writing. My goodness, it made no sense and didn’t lead to anything at all. In many ways, it felt like a repeat of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’. So many similarities that I couldn’t help but feel like I’d seen it before. I still enjoyed it, but it didn’t feel new. I hated what was done with some of the characters, and that ruined some moments for me. Like I said, the writing sucked. It was all scrambled. The added backstory just confuses things and creates extra chaos that didn’t need to be added. Another thing is that the acting was pretty corny, and felt like a made-for-TV movie. Nothing personal against the cast. I did still love seeing the returning characters and actors, which made me happy. I loved the action sequences as well. The team ups were fun. Some of it was goofy, but fun. Overall, I enjoyed this movie, but it does suck pretty bad. I’d probably only recommend it if you’re watching your way through the X-Men franchise. Besides that, you aren’t missing too much.
