X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
X-Men: Days of Future Past
This movie rocks so much. I was anticipating an amazing movie, and it shattered every single one of my expectations. I’d even go as far to say that this movie is better than about 80% of the entire MCU. My mind is just reeling with thoughts, but I’ll try to sum them up without being too long. I absolutely loved the story, which had a nice mix of realism and sci-fi. It was like a combo of ‘The Terminator’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. It does a great job of (kind of) using time travel, without being too cliche or overused. It also doesn’t get too confusing. It’s not some crazy multiverse movie or anything, it’s just a simple story of someone being transported to the past. The way it focuses on 1973 gives this movie a big advantage against other time travel movies. It uses the setting, people, and style to really keep an authentic tone. Everything in the past was brilliantly shot. One of my favorite things was how some scenes were filmed as though it was news footage. So simple but so genius. Moving on, all the characters were very well written, and combining the past ones with the present ones was really cool. The acting was incredible, especially for a CBM. I’m not saying CBM acting is bad, but sometimes it is very goofy. However, all the performances were really strong from everyone. The character designs and costumes were also really nice. Like I said, the movie really embraces the 70’s. Finally, the special effects were fantastic all around. They looked really smooth, clean, and detailed, especially the kitchen scene with Quicksilver. It also helped the action scenes look really fun. Overall, this movie is super close to being perfect. I absolutely loved it, and it’s easily my favorite of the franchise right now. This one will be hard to top. I’d highly recommend it to all superhero fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
