Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Historically, I have usually said that a sequel is not as good as the original. I would like to submit this movie as proof that I am sometimes wrong. I thought the first Mad Max was good, not great, but this one is absolutely great. It took me about 15-20 minutes to really get into it, but once I did, it’s super fun, and very well made. It’s exactly what I envisioned the Mad Max franchise would be. I think that’s why I liked this better than the first one. It met my expectations more than the first. The plot wasn’t super duper original, as it has the classic “hero shows up and saves the village from bad guys” storyline. However, you get invested in the action and characters, and even though it feels like you’ve seen some parts before, it feels unique. The dystopian future that George Miller has said up helps amplify the plot. You get so sucked into their world. All the characters are very…out there, but in a good way. They’re much more awesomer and threatening than before. I loved the bald dude with the hockey mask. Even though he doesn’t necessarily do that much, he’s very menacing, and one of my new favorite movie villains. I also loved Mel Gibson, too. Lastly, the stunts and practical effects are on point. All the chase scenes, all the explosions, all the fighting, it’s amazing. Pure entertainment. Overall, this movie is well made, and one of the better sequels out there. I know I’ll for sure watch it again, and I’d definitely recommend it to all action/sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
