• In a world of amazing sequels, this movie is close to the top of all time best. Some of my favorite sequels include ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, ‘The Godfather Part II’, and ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Compared to those, this one is the Mona Lisa, and those are third grade paintings. Of course, I’m definitely exaggerating here, but I do really like this movie. It’s not as good as the first HSM, but it’s pretty darn close. I love how it takes place during summer, which is a nice change from the first movie. So technically it’s not so much “High School Musical”, it’s more “Summer Job Musical”. But I absolutely love every second of it. So much of it is overdone and cheesy, like every Disney original ever. It’s what gives it that late 2000’s charm. I also like how all of the main (and side) characters return, with a couple new additions. The familiar faces help make it enjoyable, and don’t change up the vibe too much. The soundtrack is also great, too. I think it’s a tiny step down from the first movie, but songs like “I Don’t Dance” and especially “Bet On It” really make you tap your foot and sing along. Such a great track listing. Overall, the movie has super corny and cheesy moments and messages, which is why the Movie Score takes such a hit. But I absolutely love it, and it’s truly an all time great sequel. I’d recommend it to all musical/coming-of-age fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
