Look Back (2024)
Look Back
I have seen very little anime in my life, as well as having never read it. From most of what I’ve seen, I just can’t get behind it. However, after watching this, I feel almost enlightened. It’s one of two anime films that I’ve actually enjoyed, the other being ‘The Boy and the Heron’. Despite this one being just under an hour, it still has plenty of character development, fantastic writing, and great visuals. The whole thing was a very warm, but tragic, emotional trip. I’m in no way an artist (in terms of drawing and pictures), but even then, I could still connect with the characters almost immediately, and by the time you finish the film, you feel like you are them. There’s just an attachment there that you can’t really find any reason for. Fujino and Kyomoto’s relationship is budding and beautiful, and that last shot specifically helps solidify the meaning and love between them. I’m serious, this film hits hard. The animation is flawless, full of life, and almost realistic. It’s obviously not real, but the passion seeps into your soul, to the point where you feel like everything happening is completely authentic. You don’t realize the outside world and your surroundings until it ends. It transports you to another world. My soul still has not come back to earth yet. Overall, this film is so beautifully made, and if I can say that, then you know it’s good. I’d recommend it to all animation fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
