The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
The Place Beyond the Pines
Although I was disappointed by Daddy Gosling’s lack of screen time, this was still a great movie to see. I thought it was very well put together, although I think there were a couple things that could’ve been snipped out. It flowed together in an interesting way. I loved the story, and as I literally just said, I like the way it flows and plays out. (MAJOR spoiler here) I am not a huge fan of how quickly Daddy Gosling was killed off, as he didn’t even make it past the one hour mark. Therefore, this is more of Bradley Cooper’s movie than Goslings. However, after Gosling's character dies, he still has a very strong and lasting presence throughout the movie, even until the very end. It was something that I rarely see in a movie, and it worked beautifully. I loved following the life of Avery Cross, as his story adds way more than I was expecting. Bradley Cooper does a fantastic job, along with Daddy Gosling and the rest of the cast. I have very few complaints about the cast. I loved seeing Ray Liotta, along with Dane DeHaan. They all added so much emotion and mystery to the movie, especially DeHaan. He really pulled out the wild card and made the last part of the movie all his. The music was decent, though nothing special. I loved the feeling it adds to the main story. It boosts the crime vibe, along with the dramatic mood. Overall, this movie was great, and I’d definitely recommend it to all crime/drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
