Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy
I knew this movie was gonna be good going into it, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. James Gunn came in and made an absolutely banger of a movie, and Chris Pratt definitely helped out a lot as well. I really, really enjoyed his character, and I like how he’s part of the MCU but not necessarily a superhero. He’s just a guy who flies around stealing junk. That’s it. He doesn’t have a certain uniform or a cape and logo. He’s just a dude, and that’s what makes him so awesome. Plus, Chris is always fricking hilarious. I was also excited to watch this movie because I am an Andy Dwyer stan, and Chris almost had that same energy into certain scenes. He was charismatic yet thick-headed, and I was all there for it. The rest of the cast was great as well, and the duo of Rocket Raccoon and Groot was awesome. The thing I loved most about this movie was the effects. The CGI was extremely good, and though I don’t always care for movies that almost entirely rely on CGI, this one was absolutely amazing. The designs of the ships were incredible, and the Milano is one of the very few ships that I almost have romantic feelings for (the others being the Millenium Falcon and the TARDIS). The nice thing about this movie is how though it has different planets, civilizations, races, and spaceships, it feels like it's its own universe. Most people associate space movies with Star Wars or Star Trek, but this movie had its own unique feel to it. The effects of the galaxies and space itself were completely mind-blowing, and there were SO many gorgeous shots. The different colors stood out yet blended together so well, and it was stunningly beautiful. There were also some really nice slow-mo shots, one particular that made me audibly gasp. I was so taken aback by how cool it was, and not a lot of movies do that with slow-mo (except my man Zack Snyder). Overall, it had a really great story, and Chris's presence in this movie made it what it was. It also had a really great soundtrack. I loved how it opened with “Come and Get Your Love” with a mini dance sequence. And the movie ending with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “I Want You Back” was the perfect way to end it. I would definitely recommend this movie to sci-fi/fantasy movies, and I will definitely watch it again. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
