Eyes Without a Face (1960)
Eyes Without a Face
The impact that this movie has had on our culture is amazing. Not only has it inspired several more horror projects and ideas, but without this movie, we wouldn’t have “Eyes Without a Face” by Billy Idol. And I’m dead serious. But anyways, let’s get to the actual movie. It was well crafted, with a story that is chilling and perfect to watch during October. It’s not Halloween themed, it’s just a nice spooky movie to watch. There’s something about old horror that makes it better than any other kind of horror. The feeling I had while watching this was just awesome. It wasn’t scary, just ominous and almost nerve wracking. There were several scenes that are able to get under your skin (almost literally), especially the surgery scene. I absolutely loved it, and the use of physical props was fantastic. I love how obvious it is that the “face” was just a rubber mask, but that’s the charm of the movie. It’s so fake that it’s actually really convincing, and makes the movie feel so much more authentic. All the characters were great, no matter how they seemed on the outside. Even Dr. Genessier, no matter how cruel you might think he is. Lastly, the score was really good, and though sometimes it was a little cheesy, I love how comically mysterious it is. Overall, this movie was well made, and though there were some slow scenes, I can’t wait to rewatch this. I’d recommend it to all classic horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
