Titanic (1997)
Titanic
Coming in as the 14th perfect movie in Berry history, I was totally blown away by this. I think if I had watched it at home, it would’ve only gotten somewhere in the high 90’s. However, seeing it in 3D was totally surreal, and that gave it just enough to hit 100% all around. I’m so glad I was able to see it in theaters, as I got to experience the same feeling that people felt in 1997. It was such a beautiful but tragic experience, though I’m still glad I saw it. Yes, it is a depressing movie, but it’s still so wonderfully made. Though the story is fictitious, it still feels so authentic. I left the theater believing that Jack and Rose were real people, even though they never existed. That’s how you know it’s a good movie. When it comes to romance, I’m a sucker for it, but this one definitely hits in a different way than others have. The only on-screen couples that have ever made me feel this way are Mia and Sebastian, and Noah and Allie. You just get so sucked into Jack and Rose’s story and lives. Of course, the first half of the movie is all about them and their passion for each other, and I totally forgot that it’s really about a maritime disaster. Once the Titanic hits the iceberg, that’s where it really takes off, intensity wise. It goes full speed ahead with the events that took place, and I was both scared and horrified. Even though you know what happens in the end, I still couldn’t help but hope that, somehow, the Titanic and its crew/passengers would all be okay. But seeing the destruction of it is one of the most terrifying and tragic things I’ve ever seen in a film. I’d probably say this is the saddest movie I’ve seen, only behind Patriots Day and, arguably, The Notebook. And like I said, even though you know what happens, it still totally leaves you taken aback. Despite the sadness, the visuals are still great, along with all the effects. James Cameron did a knockout job with the sets, and the entire picture as a whole. The costume design was spot on, along with the furniture, silverware, etc. The soundtrack was downright beautiful, though still tragic and happy at the same time. The acting was great, the characters were well written, and they all added a good piece to the puzzle. I will say that you can’t go into this movie without expecting to cry a bit, cause let me tell you, I was a mess. The ending, though happy and hopeful, still hit me hard, and I had tears pouring all throughout the last hour or so. Also, the movie really leaves you thinking about everything that happened, especially for me. Overall, this movie was ridiculously good, and though extremely depressing and mournful, I still loved it. I would recommend it to all romance/drama fans, though if you cry easily, then be careful with this one. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
