Daredevil (2003)
Daredevil
I would put this movie in the same category that ‘Batman & Robin’ and ‘Superman III’ are in, and that category is: it’s so bad it’s good. I definitely didn’t enjoy this as much as some other crappy superhero movies, but there were definitely some moments where I thought it was great. Was the quality good? Not always, but that’s what 2000’s superhero movies are for. A crappy movie that’s still entertaining is exactly what I want. Ben Affleck is my favorite Batman (and one of my favorite actors period), so of course I had to see how he would do as Daredevil. Needless to say, Ben Affleck is a beast as always. The acting from everyone, not just him, wasn’t super great, though. Everybody felt very corny and forced. The dialogue was awful and very laughable at times. The script was definitely the weakest part of the movie. The way the characters were written made them seem very boring. I mean, how do you get a cast of Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Jonny Favs, and still have a stinker? It’s unfortunate. The story was lame, too. It felt like just another random superhero origin story that had an unnecessary team up and antagonists who weren’t menacing (love you Colin, but sorry). The action was fun, though, and I loved the Gotham-y aesthetic. Overall, the movie wasn’t the best, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying a good chunk of it. I’d only recommend it if you like crappy superhero movies, or you’re just catching up on Marvel movie lore.
