Guy Ritchie's The Covenant (2023)
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant
Talk about a good movie. I was not at all prepared for how good this was. In fact, at this moment, it is my new favorite 2023 release so far. The second it started, I was immediately drawn in, and it kept my attention the entire time. For the entire 2 hours, there was constantly something happening on screen, whether it was action, or internal problems. All the scenes constantly added something to the story, and I don’t feel like a single scene was just something random. They were all important. My only complaint (which is what brings this down from a 100% to a 99%) is that the pacing feels a bit off. It’s kind of hard to explain what I mean if you haven’t seen this. Certain parts felt too long when they should’ve been shorter, and others felt too short when they should’ve been longer. But, it’s not enough to make this movie bad or anything. The cast also makes the movie great. There aren’t a lot of notable names, except for Jake Gyllenhaal and Antony Starr. However, everyone did an amazing job, with standouts from Gyllenhaal and Salim. The action was super awesome, specifically all the shootout scenes. It was pretty nerve-wracking and tense. I also liked the use of slo-mo in several scenes. The soundtrack was pretty great as well. The movie opened up with “A Horse With No Name”, so I was stoked to hear that. The original score was dramatic and tragic, yet beautiful and almost caring. Overall, this movie was insanely good, and I can’t wait to watch it again. I’d highly recommend it if you like war/action movies, especially ones like “13 Hours” and “American Sniper”. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
