Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Man, talk about a scary film to watch as a kid. I’m only half joking when I say that, but at the same time, it does have some moments that spooked me when I was young. But seriously, I grew up watching all of the Wallace & Gromit short films, so this film was one of my childhood staples. It takes the same path as the short films by being silly and carefree, but on the flipside, it takes a different path by expanding the characters and having a very strong structured story. I love how it takes on an almost mythological aspect in terms of creature and storytelling, with callbacks to classic monster films. The way it utilizes those callbacks in a spoofy way is awesome. The film’s humor is unmatched, with hilarious puns and just great line deliveries. The writing is brilliant, with passionate and hilarious dialogue, and as mentioned, a story that is easy to follow but still has enough punch to remain strong from beginning to end. The animation is, again, completely perfect in every way, and my ceiling of respect for stop motion animators just continues to grow. Stop motion is truly the greatest form of animation. Lastly, the voice actors do a terrific job. Peter Sallis cements himself as one of the best animated characters ever, and no one else will ever be able to bring the same charm and quality that he brought to Wallace. It’s also super cool hearing Helena Bonham Carter and the legendary Ralph Fiennes in this film. Everyone contributes so much personality. Overall, this film is just about perfect in every way, and I’d recommend it to all stop motion fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
