Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Bohemian Rhapsody
This was definitely a disappointing movie, despite all the great things I’ve heard about it. I remember wanting to go see it when it came out to theaters, but I’m definitely glad I didn’t. A huge chunk of this movie was pretty boring, so I would’ve wasted my money. My incredibly unpopular opinion about both Queen and Freddie Mercury is that they’re highly overrated, so I knew I probably wouldn’t care for this movie. And I was pretty much right. I tried paying attention to Freddie’s story, because I was actually interested in learning about his past, but it was so hard to sit through. Certain bits of the story were kind of confusing, just in the way that they were put together. It seemed kind of choppy to me, like a lot of the stuff was thrown together in one bunch. But, I will say that all the scenes where the band is recording their tracks were fun to watch. I always love seeing how music is made in the studio, and this movie does a great job with showing that. The Galileo and “We Will Rock You” scenes were fun, but the best part, and my favorite part, of the whole movie was the Live Aid concert at the end. Even though I didn’t care for most of the movie, I was still pretty excited for that performance. I definitely loved it, and it was pretty electrifying. Rami Malek did a pretty good job of portraying Freddie, both physically and emotionally. The rest of the guys in the band did a good job as well. I also really liked the costume and hair design. It was a job well done, and helped embody the times, as well as Queen/Freddie’s different looks. Although I didn’t really like any of the music, it was still good. Queen definitely has left their legacy in music history, so for me to say that they weren’t important would be a lie. However, I still can’t stand most of their songs. Although I won’t watch this again, I would still recommend it to those who love biopics/dramas.
