Hulk (2003)

Hulk

  • This was a very…interesting movie. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into it, and it’s not really what you’d expect at all. This is probably one of the most comic book-y movies I’ve seen, if that makes sense. The way it was shot was very unique, as it almost used comic book panels to tell the story in certain scenes. While it was cool, there was a lot going on, and I think it was a poor way to shoot the movie. I can understand what they were going for, but I don’t think it worked out. It was kind of choppy, as well as confusing. The main story was also pretty confusing. It threw a lot of stuff together at once, and many of the scenes made no sense. For a good chunk of the movie, I was left questioning what I had just seen, which isn’t always good. Even though the story was somewhat interesting, it just felt poorly written. The characters were decent, and I loved both Sam Elliot and Eric Bana. They did a good job, and I really like Bana’s take on Bruce Banner/Hulk. Even though Hulk was cool, I couldn’t stand his design. It was pretty atrocious, and I thought it was weird looking. Despite his large, muscular build, he almost had a babyface, which wasn’t menacing at all. The other effects weren’t super great either. They were hit or miss. Most of them were kind of laughable, but there were a couple that I was somewhat impressed with. The music was a bit solid, but nothing to remember. Overall, I’d probably recommend it to Marvel/superhero fans, although I wouldn’t watch it again. But this movie gets an extra point, because Stan Lee and Lou Ferrgino’s cameo was epic.
