Poltergeist (1982)
Poltergeist (1982)
Undeniably a classic and extremely iconic, although for me, I think it’s slightly overrated. I can certainly agree it’s a well made movie. It’s very well put together, with a great story that’s unique and takes many turns you aren’t expecting. I love the idea of a house being evil and controlling, which can sometimes be cliche. But this movie does it differently to where it stands out from other movies. The characters are decent, though nothing super spectacular. They’re likable, but most of the time, they feel like your average horror movie characters. The score is excellent, with Jerry Goldsmith coming in clutch as always. But what makes the movie stand out the most are the practical effects. There’s so many scenes where I’m just in awe. In fact, the combination of practical effects and CGI is fantastic, especially for 1982. Sometimes it’s cheesy, but that’s the charm of the movie. It gives such a vintage vibe that is great. However, after saying all that, the reason I say it’s overrated is because it feels very slow to me. This is the second time I’ve watched it, and both times I never really got into it. I never got hooked, so during the build up and climax, it’s just kind of whatever. Like I said, it’s well made, but not one I super duper love. I’d still recommend it to all horror fans though, it’s one for the ages. Plus, the stuff that went on during and after the production of this movie is insane. Go to Wikipedia and read about the “curse” and stuff, it’s pretty crazy. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
