The Iron Claw (2023)
The Iron Claw
Wow. What an emotional rollercoaster. I gotta say, I think this is one of the best movies I’ve seen where you get built up with happy feelings, and then they all come crumbling down. Whatever you might expect this movie to be, I promise, it’s not. Now for me, I was already very familiar with the story of the Von Erichs, so nothing came as a surprise. But, it was still gut wrenching, and you’re left feeling drained. A good drain. I can certainly see why this would impact someone if you don’t know anything about the Von Erichs. However, I would highly recommend educating yourself about the Von Erich family before watching this. You’d appreciate it much more knowing the reasons and meanings behind certain things. You learn enough from the movie, but there’s a lot that isn’t shown. I would recommend the episode of “Dark Side of the Ring” about the family. It provides great insight that parts of the movie don’t go over. Besides that, I won’t say anymore at all. Moving on to the cast, everyone did an amazing job. Zac Efron is the highlight, and easily one of the best performances of his career. He’s a great physical and mental match for Kevin Von Erich. He surpassed all my expectations. That goes for the other brothers as well. I’m gonna stop here, so I won't give anything away. You definitely have to watch these events unfold for yourself. Don’t miss the opportunity to go see it. Overall, this movie is fantastic, and though it has some kinks, it’s still extremely powerful. I’d recommend it to all drama fans, especially (and obviously) if you like wrestling. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
