A Christmas Carol (1938)
A Christmas Carol (1938)
This can certainly be defined as a classic. It was extremely enjoyable from start to finish. Now, in my eyes, nothing will ever, ever top the masterpiece called ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’. However, this one is true to the story, and it’s just fun. I tried taking this one seriously, but like the Muppet version, this has several goofy bits. When I say goofy, I refer to some dialogue or something physical on screen that’s just plain cheesy. Some of the line deliveries were unintentionally hilarious, especially with the British dialect. Terms like “righto!” and ‘gov'nor” were funny to hear, but it made sense for the time period and setting. Anyways, that’s my complaint. It’s not even that much of a complaint, just a very, very small negative setback. Everything else was great. The story is fantastic (I mean, it’s one that everyone knows). I liked seeing a different telling, even though it’s the same story. Seeing it without Muppets was a refreshing but hard change. That goes for the characters as well. An entire human cast was nice. The music was really good as well. It was haunting at times, but also extremely joyous. It compliments the Christmas story very nicely. Overall, this movie was fantastic, and not super long, so it’s a good quick watch around Christmas. I’m already ready to watch it again. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
