The Terminator (1984)
The Terminator
Arguably one of the most iconic and infamous action movies ever, The Terminator is certainly a unique movie. But honestly, I was slightly disappointed by it. I still mostly enjoyed it, but even though it was less than two hours, it still felt like it kind of dragged on. There were several scenes that just bored me, but the action scenes definitely paid off. They were very tense and exciting. It’s really hard not to like a movie that’s full of shooting and explosions. I really liked the story, which has a brilliant sci-fi feel. I considered putting this in the action/adventure category, but the whole vibe screams sci-fi, which I loved. This is definitely one movie that you need to see for yourself to understand what I’m talking about. Most of the effects were really good, and they’re what gives the movie the classic 80’s feel. I freaking loved Terminator’s design, especially towards the end. The stop motion used for the skeleton was a tiny bit cheesy, but still amazing. I love the use of actual props instead of just CGI. The music was very techno/retro, which also helps contribute to the 80’s feel. It actually reminded me a bit of the score for First Blood, but obviously futuristic and more science-y. One complaint I have is that the movie is kind of an 80's overload to me. It definitely pushes the point of when the movie was shot and set, and I wasn’t a huge fan of it. Overall, this was a very well made movie, though I would’ve liked to see a tiny bit more Arnold, and a tiny bit more action (though there was still plenty). I would definitely recommend this classic to all action/sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
