The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
One of the shorter but fun mysteries I’ve seen, this one was decent. It’s a Hitchcock, so you automatically know that it’s gonna be good. Overall, the story was great, and I enjoyed being able to watch everything unfold the way that it did. Although it’s a shorter movie than average, it did feel a bit boring and drawn out to me. It doesn’t feel necessarily long, it’s just a slower paced story, which all leads up to a good ending. There’s a shootout between the antagonists and police at the end, and for 1934, it’s actually pretty exciting. Although the characters were good, the acting felt very exaggerated, which was corny and kind of hard to sit through. Everyone felt somewhat staged, except for Peter Lorre. He is always able to perfectly play his characters with no problem. He’s easily the best thing about this movie, and I always love watching the people that he plays. There were also some really good shots throughout the movie, and there was one especially that I thought was one of the coolest I think I’ve ever seen in any movie. One thing I didn’t like was the lack of music. Except for the opening/end credits, and a couple certain scenes, there was almost no music at all, which I’m not a huge fan of. Although it somewhat works (because it’s a noir), I still think the absence of it dumbs down the movie a bit. Overall, it was still pretty well made.
