The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Suicide Squad
Coming in as the 19th perfect movie in Berry History, I’ll be the one to say it: this movie is a cinematic masterpiece. Not only is it one of the best DCEU movies, but this is EASILY in the top 10 greatest CBM’s ever made. I can’t even begin to explain how fantastic this movie is. It’s definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. James Gunn is an absolute brilliant filmmaker, and seeing this film only increases my excitement for the first chapter of the new DCU. You get the gory grittiness that it needs, but also provides some humor without pushing it. You can really tell Gunn put his personal touch on it. The story is kind of close to the first Suicide Squad, only a bajillion times better. I mean, I don’t have a single complaint about this movie. It ups the stakes in every way possible, and all the characters are vastly better than the first movie. Bringing back Harley, Flag, and Waller was a brilliant decision, as they all had better versions of themselves in this one. It’s easily the best DCEU Harley we’ve gotten. Waller was so terrifying, and she almost radiates fear. John Cena as Peacemaker, Idris Elba as Killsport, and David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man were all perfectly cast. They were all really likable, but still had faults, which makes them so fun to study. Also, casting Sylvester Stallone as King Shark is awesome. Bringing Sly into the DCEU was one of my dreams, as he’s my second favorite actor of all time. So giving him an awesome role completes me. I also wanna mention Peter Capaldi. He’s one of my favorite Doctor’s, and I am so happy to see him take on a more villain-y role. The cast is stacked, the characters are all freaking epic, and the story is brilliantly written. The CGI is some of the best you’ll ever see in a CBM, maybe even all time. Not only are all the deaths gruesome and cool, but the giant starfish is scary yet gorgeous. Everything works so smoothly. It’s some of the few movies where I have zero complaints about the effects. And the soundtrack? My gosh is it crazy good. The score stands out in every way possible, and the selection of individual songs completes the movie. My favorite one is Folsom Prison Blues, which opens the movie in such a unique way. Anyways, I’m gonna stop there before I write a whole fricking essay on this movie. I would HIGHLY recommend it to all CBM fans, even if you don’t like DC. Because this is a MOVIE, not just 2 hours of random entertainment. It focuses on the important things, like cinematography, music, acting, and everything else. Just go watch it. Please. It’s a masterpiece. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
