Orion and the Dark (2024)
Orion and the Dark
To be honest, the only reason I wanted to watch this was because I thought the animation looked great. I didn’t know anything about the film going into it, and apparently it’s based on a book. I haven’t read the book, so I don’t know if it’s accurate or not, but I think the film was pretty well handled, for the most part. It was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I enjoyed it a lot more as well. I’m usually not always a huge fan of animated films for kids, but this one was solid. The story was pretty good, although it definitely hopped around between events and never fully stuck the landing. It wasn’t necessarily poor or anything, but it was a tiny bit confusing and tried to focus on too many things. But I like how it focuses on a young boy who has anxiety and lots of fears. The way it uses colorful, unique characters to represent different concepts was a little cliche, but it still worked. It reminds me a bit of ‘Inside Out’. The voice acting was great, and I enjoy continuing to see Jacob Tremblay have success. He does a great job as always. Lastly, the animation was very smooth and I loved the visuals. There were so many scenes that were breathtaking and gorgeous. Overall, this film was well made, and definitely slept on. I’d probably recommend it to most animation fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
